Daily Bear viewing tours in Hoonah-
Bear viewing tours for guests arriving by Cruise Ship at Icy Strait Point and also visitors from other nearby towns. A Huna Outfitters van will be waiting for you on the day of your arrival. The wildlife search starts right away Many, many, times we have seen Humpback whales bubble feeding right off the Hoonah shore line as we drive into town. A short cruise through the rustic Tlingit village and a drive-by at the Hoonah Harbor will bring us to the Tongass National Forests of Chichagof Island.
Your bear search begins by traversing on the old logging roads to places like freshwater bay, White stone logging camp, and Upper Game Creek. These are just a few “Hot” spots to locate our elusive brown bears. Other common sights during the tour are Sitka black-tail deer, bald eagles, red-tailed hawks and over 250 varieties of waterfowl and songbirds will guide us in our search. Smell something fishy and a little pungent? You have just smelled you first wild grizzley bear! Before you see them with your eyes, you nose will tell you they are near! It will be no surprise why we have found the bears here, as you watch the millions of spawning salmon crowd the crystal clear streams. This is the untouched Alaska, as raw and exciting as it gets!!
We think Hoonah has the best Bear Viewing in Southeast Alaska!

Bear viewing safety & Things to keep in mind
These are wild animals and we simply observe them in their natural habitat. Guest safety is high priority and guides are specially trained to understand bear behavior, its the guest behavior that we cant predict. For that reason we do not represent this as a “hiking tour”. While on tour, please stay with the tour group and consult your guide about how to maintain yourself in the presence of bears. TAKE all the pictures you want, but please leave the Alaskan turf where it is. We try to be as non-invasive as possible into this wild and pristine habitat. There are thousands of species that call this land home and we want to show you as many as we can with respect to the environment. Bear and wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
All inclusive tours available for groups of 12 or more that book together.
We can custom tailor any tour to you preference. Bear viewing tours range anywhere from our suggested 3hrs, to 6 hours or more (just depends on what you want to see). Seat availability is limited on the high-priority tour times, advanced reservations are recommended!
Sit back and Enjoy the ride! But DON”T close you eyes!!
